The Cloche Hat was the iconic hat of the Roaring Twenties and will always be associated with the flappers of that era. The Cloche Hat had a basic Belle shape (sometimes called the Belle Hat) It had a bulbous Crown which could add inches to a women's height. To correctly wear a Cloche Hat, the hat had to all but pulled down over the eyes, which meant the young woman had to tilt her head at a specific angle so she could see where she was going. Foreheads were unfashionable in the twenties. It also gave one the impression she was a bit arrogant, looking down her nose at you. It also told everyone, she had short hair. It was only possible to wear a close fitting Cloche Hat on your head if the hair was cropped short and flat. Art Deco was also a great influence on the construction of many Cloche Hats. Art Deco appliques' were a very popular embellishment on the Cloche Hat. Today there has been a resurgence of popularity of the Cloche Hat. It is a very popular style at the Hollywood Hat Lounge.
